Background
The
Albert Avenue Area of Peasedown St John consists of two avenues; Frederick
and Albert Avenues. They form
the sides of an elongated gyratory which also encloses an open space of
local significance. The
gyratory provides access to houses and provides paths for through traffic
to adjacent residential streets. There
are no traffic calming or speed restrictions, so a speeding and
anti-social driving problem exist. These
combined with the physical layout of the area mean a high percentage of
child accidents.
Scheme Objectives
 | To encourage
community development.
|
 | To reduce accident
rates.
|
 | To improved
perceptions of safety.
|
 | To reduce anti-social driving behaviour.
|
Impacts
Environment
has been improved both visually and in terms of access.
The Home Zone project led to funding for ‘Play Rangers’, a
group formed to help develop children’s play activity and consult on the
development of amenities. The
installation of new lighting has enhanced feelings of personal security.
Development of the residents group has changed the way people use
the area and stimulate greater sense of community. The group is likely to
continue to press for further development and improvement of the estate.
