The Fordhouses area is located
in the Bushbury Ward and situated in the northern part of Wolverhampton. The council owned housing is semi-detached and there are four
schools, a community centre and shopping facilities in the area. The
roads are not traffic calmed and residents are concerned about the traffic
around the school. The area
also has trouble with joyriding.
Scheme Objectives
 | To
reduce vehicle speeds.
|
 | To
increase the levels of cycling and walking.
|
 | To
achieve an approval rating of at least 90% of the residents |
Impacts
There is generally less
nuisance caused through inconsiderate parking and there is generally a
better atmosphere from residents on the estate with residents seem to be
taking more care of their surroundings.
Whilst there has been some
graffiti, the scale of vandalism and crime seems to have decreased. The
speeding race circuit effect was stopped by the road closure. The new
school barrier has stopped cars being burnt out and abandoned.
The number of void properties
on the estate has decreased with the area becoming more desirable. The
turnover of council tenants on the estate has decreased considerably.
