Kent County Council

Background

Heathfield Avenue is in the Barton Ward, the most deprived ward in Dover.  The houses are terraced, built at the turn of the century, and there is a school at one end of the road.  The area falls within the scope of a Public Service Agreement where the Council is striving to reduce child casualties.  Traffic flows through the area have increased as people try to avoid a one-way system introduced in the centre of Dover.

Scheme Objectives

Traffic accident reduction
Reduce traffic rat-running
To encourage a sense of community through enhanced focal points.

Impacts

The Home Zone did not proceed due a lack of support from residents.
