Background
North
Close Estate lies in the north of Redruth, a small town which has recently
suffered decline. North Close Estate built in the mid 1930's lies
close to the interchange of the A30 and A3047. There are small
industrial units to the west of the estate, but the area is predominately
residential comprising semi-detached houses and maisonettes.

Impacts
The
office, introduced as part of the Home Zone, is well used by the community
as a meeting place for various community groups including a youth football
team. It is also used for computer training, health groups, police
liaison and for other service providers. Many of these activities did not take place before the office
was available. The scheme has
made a dramatic improvement to the built environment.
Improving lighting at the back of properties was aimed at reducing
the fear of crime and encourage people to park their cars at the back of
the properties. This does not appear to have happened yet.

Progress
- March 2005
Continued
construction of Home Zone on site.
Working Group meeting agreed everything is looking good and no
serious problems raised.
A question was raised about the lighting around the play area and
the fact that it is not bright enough.
The electrical engineers have been asked to check that lighting of
the proper standard has been installed correctly and, if it has, to make
suggestions on possible solutions.
