Background
Northmoor
is an area of Longsight, Manchester of traditional terraced style housing,
in mixed ownership. Over
recent years Northmoor has become less desirable area, with falling
property values and boarded up houses.
Scheme Objectives
 | Increase feeling of
safety by reducing traffic speeds
|
 | Provide a safe place
for children to play
|
 | Promote greater use
of the street where people can walk/cycle and chat.
|
 | Make the street more
attractive
|
 | Create a sense of
ownership
|
 | Compliment other regeneration initiatives
in promoting the liveability of the area
|
Impacts
Visually,
the area has benefited from an improved look of streets. Residents
have a more responsible attitude to the care of their environment. There
is an increase in community activities such as Gardening Club.
There has been a marked decrease in anti-social behaviour. Figures for the area as a whole show significant decreases in
the last few years but it is difficult to separate what is due to the Home
Zone and what is due to other regeneration activities.
Prospective home buyers have been encouraged to invest in the area
and subsequently there are fewer emptied properties and also house prices
have risen dramatically.
