The
housing in Poulton is in a grid pattern and comprises 2,3 and 4 storey
Victorian terraces. There is a problem with the volume of traffic
using the area.
Scheme Objectives
 | To reduce or remove
traffic with no immediate access requirement.
|
 | To restrict parking
to residents and local community activities.
|
 | To enhance the local
environment through high quality street furniture and materials.
|
 | To create open
spaces linked to the street.
|
 | To widen, improve and gate Back Green
Street.
|
Impacts
Whilst
still in the early days of redevelopment, it would appear that the primary
objectives of removing unnecessary traffic and parking have been
successful, together with a dramatic improvement in the street scene. 93%
of Poulton’s streets now achieve EPA A or B cleanliness standard. The
level of crime in Poulton has reduced by 22% since 2002. A recent survey
found that 90% of residents wished to remain in the area.

All
