Saxton
Road lies in the south of Abingdon. It
was built in the 1930s as a council estate of mainly semi-detached houses
and small terraces with little provision for off-street parking. A number of houses now have driveways but a significant number
of the houses do not front directly onto the street and high levels of
on-street parking remain. Although
the road has existing traffic calming features, the child accident rate
remains very high. This is
particularly true on the western end of the road, which led the County
Council to consider this for Home Zone treatment.
Scheme Objectives:
 | To
improve safety, particularly for children
|
 | To
improve the environment
|
 | To
reduce crime
|
 | To
manage parking
|
 | To
increase walking and cycling

Impacts
The
perception is that speeds are lower as a result of the scheme. There has been general improvement in the standard of care and
tidiness of the properties along the street.
