Scheme Objectives
 | Improve
safety
|
 | Lower
vehicle speeds
|
 | Increase
walking/cycling
|
 | Reduce
street crime
|
 | Increase
on-street play |
Impacts
There has been a marked
reduction in vehicle speed and anecdotal evidence suggests that these
lower speeds are leading to increased street activity. The
play area is well used and has not suffered vandalism. The
youth shelter is also well used but complaints from nearby residents have
been received due to high numbers utilising the facility at night. A
single CCTV system funded outside of the project has dispersed youths who
used to congregate at night. Planting
has improved the area where it has been allowed to establish. However,
major vandalism has occurred despite replanting on numerous occasions. Many
residents have invested in parking areas within their front gardens to
provide secure parking.
