Wiltshire County Council
ImpactsThe
overall appearance of the estate has improved with 52% of residents
pleased with the scheme. However
there are a number of issues, mainly relating to the surfacing which was
not successful. There has been little impact on issues relating to walking and
cycling. Speeds have not
decreased as much as hoped, and still appears to be an issue for concern
for many residents. There are
still outstanding issues relating to lack of parking.
The residents after survey indicates that the new grassed areas,
trees and plants have proved an attractive addition to the estate. Residents appear to have more pride over their estate.
Children are more likely to play in the street, feeling less
threatened by traffic using the estate. The school travel survey indicated
that children are happier to walk to school than before the Home Zone. Westleigh Newsletter - Issue 5

Progress - March 2005The Home zone was completed in May 04. We have
recently received the result of our 'After' household survey and Travel
Survey report. Overall the response could be considered mixed. Speed
surveys have also been undertaken and the results show that speed within
the home zone have generally stayed at the same level as before, however
it should be noted that before speed were already low at approximately
14-18mph.
