Case Studies

Shared Space and Home Zones are evolving all the time, so to help us learn from each other the IHE has provided an easy-to-use resource of case studies where you can search for new and retrofit development schemes in the UK.

If you are a developer/professional you might be interested in contributing to this valuable resource. It also offers you an excellent opportunity to publicise your Home Zone schemes.

Here you'll find examples of good practice:

1. Designated Home Zones

To add your scheme, which will feature in the rolling Home Page visuals, you need to register for a password and follow the User Guide.

2. Other similar schemes

Create your own pdf for us to load.

3. The 59 Challenge Fund projects

Mainly 'retrofit' home zones on existing streets completed before 2006.

Read TRL reports on the nine original Home Zones.

4. Shared Space streets

The guidedogs site identifies shared space streets as part of its 'say no' campaign.

5. DIY Streets

Look at SUSTRANS projects under construction with local authority partners. To be completed by March 2010.

New Build Home Zones

It is possible to fasttrack designation.  Go to Topic Papers for advice on designation and order making procedures.  The page is regularly updated.
