The Home Zones Challenge was a Government initiative to encourage the redesign of streets as places for people. £30M was awarded to 59 schemes in 2002.

Access the archived Challenge website, ‘Top Tips’ and detailed information on most of the schemes arranged by region. The descriptions generally include notes on the area, scheme objectives, impacts and a progress report.

In December 2005, the DfT published a Good Practice Guide based on the lessons learnt.
