New Disability Discrimination Act, (2005)

Places a Disability Equality Duty on the public sector “to actively promote disability equality”. It is akin to the duty to promote race equality. Key public bodies will be required to produce Disability Equality Schemes and action plans and to report annual. The Act also extends the DDA to cover most local authority functions including planning and access to roads and streets.
